Tuesday 24-4-07
Today a new girl began at 4H, and she entered my group. She seemed to like it, and she got along well with all the
other girls, with whom she soon made friends. We drove the horse and carriage, but we took a somewhat shorter trip,
about 30 mins, because one of the ponies that we had brought is very old, and can't exercise too much.
Thursday 19-4-07
The second styrelsemöte with the new group of people was held today. It started at 19:00 and we kept on talking untill
21:30, a very long time indeed. However, there were many important things brought up, such as the last parentmeeting/openhouse,
the economy, the members, the leaders, the 4H day, etc. We came to some important conclusions, but there were some
subjects which we didn't have time to bring up, which we have saved for the coming meeting.
Tuesday 17-4-07
Barnen i min grupp hade hand om djuren idag. Efter det att vi var klara tog vi in en häst och övade att tränsa och
sadla, vilket var väldigt uppskattat.
Tuesday 10-4-07
Inget 4H: Påsklov.
Tuesday 3-4-07
Barnen i min grupp red på 4H idag. De tyckte att det var väldigt roligt!
Tuesday 27-3-07
There were few leaders on 4H this time, and so we did as we had done previously.
Tuesday 20-3-07
We weren't in our new groups today, since not enough children showed up, and instead we took care of the
animals and then the children rode behind the wagon.
Tuesday 13-3-07
The groups were constructed, and I got the highest-ranked group this term, since I wanted to continue
teaching the children I had last term.
Tuesday 6-3-07
4H. Same proceedure as previously.
Tuesday 27-2-07
4H. Same proceedure as previously.
Thursday 22-2-07
First styrelsemöte (boardmeeting) with the new styrelse at 4H. Everything took a very long time, since all the members
except me and another woman is new, and there was a great need for a lot explanations, etc. My strong belief, however,
is that everything will work out just fine with the new styrelse. Even though this meeting took 2 hours.
Tuesday 20-2-07
Still very few children, and the proceedure was repeated.
Tuesday 13-2-07
Start of this springterm's 4H! Not a lot of children showed up (only 9), but we took care of the animals and
then drove horse and carriage.
Tuesday 12-12-06
The end had come, the final 4H of the term had come. The chilren were given lots of treats
with christmas feeling, such as gingerbread, saffran buns, ice cream and chocolate. It took
us an hour to finish it all! After that we played some games with the children, and it was
all very appreciated. We had all had a very nice last day when it was time to go home again.
Saturday and Sunday 9-12-06 and 10-12-06
At last, all that we had practiced for was put to test! On Saturday and Sunday the children
of 4H had their Lucia performances at Rönninge By's yearly christmas celebration. It went
really well both of the days. We started out by welcoming the children at 11:30, and told
them where to put their things and which horses to groom. After that we practiced songs and
had lunch. Thereafter we made the horses pretty with glitter and ribbons and braids. At about
14:00 the children put on their Lucia outfits and we had one last rehearsal of the songs inside.
We then got the horses and started the Lucia performance. It all went really well, the children
all sang at the right tempo aswell as loud and clear. The performance was a success both days.
Finally, at about 15:30, all the children had gone home after a successfull day.
Tuesday 5-12-06
This time we had our final rehearsals at 4H for Lucia. We had taken in horses before the
children came and they got to brush and saddle them and so. After that we started practicing.
It all went really well, we only had to do it three times and they managed it perfectly.
After this we brushed the horses and took them back to the pasture. I showed some children
how to feed and water the big horses in the stable, why they ate a certain mix of food
and why it was neccessary to clean their beds and so. They seemed very interested, for once,
which was really nice. After we were done with the big-horse stables and had taken the small
horses to the pasture we went inside and played some games with the children till it was time
for them to go home.
Tuesday 28-11-06
I arrived 10 minutes late to 4H today (as usual), but again it didn't matter. The other
leaders had already put the kids to work, tending to the horses and animals, aswell as
putting the help-leaders to baking. I helped out a little, and then took to grooming a
horse. They're usually really muddy in autumn.
After the animals were all done and fed, we went to practice for our Lucia performance.
The kids did really well, even though it's the first time for many of them. It was really
nice that they knew all of the songs and sang high and clear. I've only been a leader
once before during Lucia-time, so this was a good rehearsal for me aswell.
The children always have problems with the same things, a part in that song and a part
in that, and are always really good at other things. It's amazing how everyone tends to
be similar. They always shy away from high notes, except when they're really high because
then they rather scream. They have problem when the text is really fast in jinglebells,
"med oss han sedan sig beger..", etc.
After singing and practicing walking we went inside and ate the cookies that the help-leaders
had baked for us. The children ate and then they played, while us leaders rested a little bit.
I bet that the children sleep really well after they've been at 4H, since they run and
play so much!
During this time one of the children's mother called me on my cellphone, and was worried
because she would be coming 10 minutes late. I reassured her that we wouldn't leave any
child alone on the farm, and that we'd wait until the last one had left. I was really surprised
that she had called me, I mean, where did she get my number from? But it felt nice to have
helped out just the same. I may be the oldest leader on Tuesdays, but I havn't been there
the longest, and am not the most experienced. I would have thought that a parent would have
called one of the other leaders, so I was really pleased when this mother called me. It made
me feel like I also had a controll of things.
Tuesday 21-11-06
For today I had signed up to help out with the Open House at ÅVA. I had decided to take
the chance to do a lab during the time I spent at the Open House. We did the lab to
illustrate that the IB-programme also emphasizes the need for natural sciences, and that
we can do it in a fun way (lab is fun!). We did a lab about semi-permeable membranes,
which was easy, since we had done it before.
It was nice to see all the people who came there. Since I have never gone on an open house
before, there was more people than I had expected, and people I even met people that I knew
from other places. It was a nice experience. I also liked that there were some IB2s aswell
as IB1s there.
All in all it was a very nice day. I'm glad that I decided to help out. Not just because
of the extra CAS-hours, but because it was fun, and I really think I've got the hang of
semi-permeable membranes now! Because we had much time over when the lab was done, I was
able to get a more thourough explanation of what we had done.
Tuesday 14-11-06
Even though I had a resourceday today I came about 10 minutes late to 4H, but since we did almost
exactly the same things as last time, it didn't matter much.
Tuesday 7-11-06
This time I came about 15 minutes late, but it was alright, since we are all sharing the groups
again, and having all the children in one large group. When I joined they were feeding, grooming
and mucking for the horses in the stable, so I decided to stay and help out there. For the rest
of the evening we baked and sang Lucia-songs, for the Lucia the 9th of December.
Tuesday 31-10-06 Autumn vacation, so no 4H
Tuesday 24-10-06 I went to China, so no 4H.
Tuesday 17-10-06 I went to China, so no 4H.
Tuesday 10-10-06
Finally! (all my kids said ^_^) It was our turn to go horse-back riding!
We hurried away to the pasture and got all our horses (6 of them, one for every
child and 1 for me and my helpleader to share). After that we got them ready,
and off we went.
As it started getting later (and darker) we realized we had to hurry back, so my
helpleader (who was riding in front) proposed that we should take a short-cut through
the woods. I just told her to take the shortest way and then in we went. And got
ourselves lost! But it's a small forest and we made it back out again, but we lost
a lot of time!
Finally we made it back.
Tuesday 03-10-06
This time my group drove wagons (horses&wagons). The children all did really well,
but we had to take a pretty short drive, because it had taken such a long time to
get all the horses in and ready.
Tuesday 26-09-06
Today our group took care of the animals. We fed and watered the goats, the rabbits
and the hens. I decided that I wanted to do it very quickly so that my group could
have time to practice putting on halters on horses in the pasture, in order to make
everything go a little faster the next time we were to go riding.
So when we were done we had an hour left, so we went out into the pasture and the
children got to practice putting on halters and thereafter we took two horses back
to the stable. We practiced how to saddle and groom the horses, and all the children
were very good at it.
We didn't have much time left after that so we put the horses back in the pasture and
I let the children pet the other horses that were there. After that we had to hurry
back to the stable in order to get back before the parents started to arrive.
Tuesday 19-09-06
Finally we split the children into three groups. This time my group (which consists of 4 children)
went horse-back riding, some for the first time.
Everything went well, and even the girl who was a little afraid of horses eventually
rode aswell, which made me really happy. If you're afraid of horses it's hard to
get over your fear, especially when you're so small and they're so big.
Tuesday 12-09-06
This was the third time at 4H this term, and next time I will be in charge of my
own group, so far all of us leaders have cooperated and have had the children in
one large group.
I arrived 10 minutes late, since english class actually doesn't end until 5pm, and
4H starts at the same time. Luckily enough we were allowed to end english earlier.
Our primary task for the day was to move all the horses (about 30) from one pasture
to another one, and I took 8 children to move as many as we could.
As it turned out I overestimated how good they were with horses. I knew fairly well
at what level the children I've had before are at, but with the new ones I tried to listen
to what they said they knew, but it turned out that that was a bad way to find out.
We finally managed to get all the horses out of the pasture (I was running back and forth
helping kids with their horses by now) and into the new one.
After that we all went (the other leaders and children, too) to get the rest of the horses.
Even though we were many leaders we had quite much to do. The foals and yearlings arn't
really trained yet, and would rather do what they want than what we tell them to, (which
is why we can't let the children hold them) so that occupied a lot of leaders.
Once again I found myself running back and forth to help the children.
We ended the day with a little grooming competition, which was appreciated by both horses
and children :)
Tuesday 5-09-06
These first few times at the start of 4H are usually relatively slow and unexiting,
with nothing special happening. It is neccessary to see how many children will show up
eventually, how many that are to be added to the groups, etc. We repeated what we did
last time this second time aswell.
Tuesday 29-08-06
This was the first time at 4H for the term, and we started out by seeing what new children
we had aswell as how many of the "old" children that had stayed with us. After that we took
care of the animals and thereafter we took in Enya (one of the nordsvensk-horses, very big)
from the pasture, and got her ready to drive. After that we went out for a "drive" with all
the children sitting on the wagon. It was generally appreciated, as we played some games and
sung some songs aswell. It was a good time for the children to get to know each other better.
